Interoperability

Interoperability of information is essential and an assured capability for this is vital.  The successful execution of fast moving operations needs an accelerated decision-action cycle, increased tempo of operations, and the ability to conduct operations simultaneously within combined/multinational formations.
That is precisely what MIP is after and working for.

Commanders require timely and accurate information.  Also, supporting command and control (C2) systems need to pass information within and across national and language boundaries.  Additionally, forces must interact with non-governmental bodies, and international and national aid organisations.

Information Technology will act as a force multiplier to enhance operational effectiveness at each level of command by enabling the sending, receiving, filtering, fusing, and processing of ever-increasing amount of digital information.

MIP & NATO

NATO Force Goals (EL2802, Land & ER2802, Marine Forces) calls for the implementation of the MIP solution by NATO Nations.

The JC3IEDM is already the STANAG 5525 currently under ratification. The NATO Corporate Data Model (STANAG 5523 / ADatP-32) does not exist any longer.
*STANAG (Standard Agreement)

MIP liaises closely with NATO, and NATO has a Policy on MIP that allows MIP to easily conveys its specifications into NATO.

The MIP specification is included in the NATO C3 Technical Architecture.

The NATO Military Criteria for High Readiness Forces (Land) Headquarters requires the use of an MIP (ATCCIS) conformant land information system.

Many national C2 information systems implement MIP specifications.

The Bi-SC Automated Information System will use the MIP solution in its Land Functional Services to interface to national C2IS, either in HRF/LRF, CJTF, NRF or other crisis response operation or exercise.

Welcome to the MIP Web Site !

MIP gets NCW Award!

The purpose of this Site is to provide the general public with information about the Multilateral Interoperability Programme (MIP). By following the topical links, you will browse the pages and therefore find information about several facets of the Programme.

You are invited in addition, to contact either the Webmaster or any of the member nations in order to get more detailed information about MIP.

 Site Map and Brief summary.

Find through these pages valuable information on several topics related to the MIP Programme. See also a little introduction on different page categories you may access and either read or consult.

 Home.

This is the Public Area introductory section. There are three pages within it.

MIP News. With latest news on the Community, latest developments and events.
MIP Concept. It explains the MIP Conceptual foundations.
Navigation & Caveats. This page is important for those who want to use the MIP products. It also helps navigate and find the information all over the MIP Site.

 History.

The Enhanced MIP comes about after a long chain of merges and agreements. Know more on the MIP birth and merges until the present and how the MIP business are running nowadays.

ATCCIS. One of the MIP ancestors. The DM (Data Model) and EM (Exchange Mechanism) come from those times.
Block & Baseline 1. This is already part of the MIP history. See here its development and outcome.
IOT&E. This was the Block 1 FOC and culmination. Take a look at it here!
Block & Baseline 2. Find here the official release of Baseline 2. Have a look at its documents by following the hyperlink!

 MIP Organization.

The MIP Organizational structure is key to understand how MIP functions.

MSG (Steering). It is located at the top organizational layer and makes the key decisions for MIP.
PMG (Management). There is no single PM at the MIP. The PMG performs collectively the required managements activities for the Program.
OWG (Operational). The IERs (Information Exchange Requirements) come mostly from this group. They represent also the "Operational User Community".
DMWG (Data Modelling). It specifies the "semantics" of the data to exchange. For such a purpose the so called "Data Model" is developed .
SEAWG (Engineering and Architecture). Here they are the people who design and specified the MIP solution from the technical viewpoint.
TEWG (Test and Evaluation). This WG plans, arranges, organizes and executes the testing plan for every MIP Baseline.
CCWG (Configuration Control). The whole set of documents and files should be carefully traced and under control "from cradle to grave" for every MIP Baseline. That is CCWG's mission.

 Documents.

This section shows what MIP produces in the end. On the first one, "Documents", the reader may find all the "baselined" documents officially released by MIP for the Baseline 2 and 3. He will find there the so-called "Supporting Documents" too.

Beside that, there is also available here some additional material such as XML schemas and tools developed in parallel with the Data Model as a complement for it.

XML 1. XML might be the next step and MIP is exploring this way ahead.
XML 2. Some products are already available in this page. Take a glance at!
XML 3. Read also some interesting notes and caveats about using MIP XML products.
Library. Some of our readers cooperate with MIP in spreading the word and Knowledge on several technical matters related mostly to Interoperability. See here their articles and contributions.

 Contacts.

Here dear reader, you may find addresses where you will get much more information on MIP. Just follow the hyperlinks!
