Configuration Control

Any time that changing or updating a particular MIP document is required, a CP must be issued, discussed and approved.

A MIP CP follows the process as depicted on the picture below (click on to enlarge).

CP flow chart.

MIP Glossary

Some definitions.

 Baseline.
A reviewed and approved release of artefacts that constitutes an agreed basis for further evolution or development and that can be changed only through a formal procedure, such as change management and configuration control

 Document.
A document is a collection of information that is intended to be represented on paper, or in a medium using a paper metaphor. The paper metaphor includes the concept of pages, and it has either an implicit or explicit sequence of contents. The information is in text or two-dimensional pictures. Examples of paper metaphors are word processor documents, spreadsheets, schedules, Gantt charts, web pages, or overhead slide presentations.

 Artifact.

-. A document, such as Business Case or Software Architecture Document;
-. A model, such as the Use-Case Model or the Design Model;
-. A model element; that is, an element within a model, such as a class, or a subsystem; and

MIP gets NCW Award!

Do you need the latest version of a MIP document? Do not hesitate. It is here! Just follow the hyperlinks.

Baseline 3 is ongoing with new document drafts and versions (3 series). They are being usually released after WGs.

Baseline 2 is already part of the MIP history, although actual implementations of it are currently "in service" and MIP will support the Baseline for the entire life cycle. If you wish to take a look at any Baseline 2 documents follow the hyperlink: Baseline 2 (also at Site Map Menu).

  Index.

 Main chapters of this page are as follows:

MIP Baseline concept and definition. What is a Baselined document? What is a supporting one?

MIP Baseline 3 and Supporting documents overview. Status of MIP documents.

Other Documents.

 MIP Baseline concept and definition.

A MIP baseline is a specification of an interoperability solution that has been formally reviewed and agreed upon, and thereafter serves as the basis for further development, and can be changed only through formal change control procedures.

The Baseline specification consists of a coherent minimum set of documents needed to build and test a MIP Common Interface (MCI). Once the baseline is successfully tested it becomes approved and therefore ready for official release.

 The Baseline 2 is the outcome of MIP Block 2 work and will be in service from December 2006 to December 2008 or until MIP Block 3 be released. Meanwhile, the Baseline 3 development is under way and some documents are already available.

Other documents regard the management, configuration control or matters such as  program management or communication and liaison with external bodies. They are called "Supporting Documents".

Not all the MIP documents are available in the MIP's Public website but only those agreed by PMG to release to the public audience. However, you may find among them that minimum set absolutely necessary to implement the MIP Solution.

* Look first at the caveats page if you plan to use any document published through this pages for system development purposes.

The following table shows the status of the MIP Block 3 Documentation. It is updated at the end of every WG and in line with its outcome. Every document is placed in a folder that you may browse by clicking on its name. Some times there is one file with both the main body and the annexes. In other cases, main body and annexes are contained in different files. For more detailed information on a particular document, click on the hyperlink associated to its name.

 Other MIP documents.

This chapter gets together some other documents such as the MIP official presentation so called MIP Standard Briefing (MSB). take a look at them.

MIP Standard Briefing.
This MSB in short and sums up what MIP is about at every layer, from the operational to the technical and managerial one. It also gives interesting details on other subjects as its history for instance. Good start for presentations on MIP on whatever stage.
Latest version, 3.0, incorporating changes made and approved by PMG-20. New animation effects and some other features also available now.

MIP-NDAG MOA (Memorandum of Agreement). Result of negotiations hold in SHAPE in February 2004.
